The full force of John Donald’s expertise is evident in various examples of his fine craftsmanship. Although honouring the traditional values of proportion and usage, John Donald still manages to incorporate original techniques, such as his “nugget” effect, which is a melted and pierced treatment – by hand – of silver, as depicted in the larger presentation bowls. The silver goblets, cream jugs and sugar bowls shown have either a “cubes” or a “flake” stem, or base, but any specific or personal motif could be incorporated. |
